Four children are part of a group of seven people found dead in a Margaret River home this morning.
He went on: "Police are now responding to what I can only describe as an horrific incident in Osmington, 20km north-east of Margaret River".
In 2015, NSW farmer Geoff Hunt killed his wife and three children before wading into a small dam and shooting himself.
He said the bodies of two adults were found outside a building, while five were discovered inside.
Two guns were found at the property.
"This is a horrific incident", Chief Commissioner Chris Dawson said.
The WA police commissioner, Chris Dawson, confirmed a "significant tragedy" had occurred on a rural property in Osmington, near the holiday town of Margaret River in the state's south-west.
It is understood detectives from the major crime squad are travelling to Margaret River from Perth this morning.

Siyonbola's computer, books, notebooks, a blanket and a pillow were in the common room with her, the police reported. Police arrived and questioned Siyonbola, who gave them her ID and showed them the keys to her apartment.
The discovery is believed to have been made at a house in the Margaret River region, south of Perth.
"Regrettably, these tragedies do take their toll", Mr Dawson said.
Upon arrival, the police officers located the seven people dead.
"We are still trying to locate next of kin".
"I'd seen who I assume was the father out in a paddock one day, on a tractor, but I didn't have the opportunity to say hello", the semi-retired farmer said.
"There's a priority to these investigations so we'll immediately concentrate on the actual scene itself and, as matters are further investigated, naturally, we would be asking for anyone that does know anything about this matter to contact police", he said.
Commissioner Dawson added the telephone call that reported the incident had been recorded.
