"One of the blatant potential untruths here is about his conversations with his father about this Trump Tower meeting".

His notes mention "Russian adoption by American families" and Bill Browder, a British citizen who has spearheaded a US sanctions law -known as the Magnitsky Act- that targets Russian officials over human rights abuses.

The gathering was brokered and attended by Rob Goldstone, a colorful music promoter who represented Russian pop star Emin Agalarov, the son of oligarch Aras Agalarov, who asked him to set it up on Veselnitskaya's behalf.

In addition to Trump Jr., the committee interviewed four other people who attended the Trump Tower meeting in NY - publicist Rob Goldstone, who set up the meeting with the promise of dirt on Clinton; Rinat Akhmetshin, a prominent Russian-American lobbyist; Ike Kaveladze, a business associate of a Moscow-based developer, and a translator.

Last July, when the New York Times published a report about the meeting, a statement was crafted aboard Air Force One as the president returned from Germany. "They are concerned because it links Don officials from Russian Federation - which he has always denied meeting". Goldstone wrote. "And because I am not able to respond out of courtesy to you and your father".

Mr Goldstone told the Senate committee that on the day of the pageant, around 4pm, a call came in to Mr Aras Agalarov from Mr Dmitry Peskov, Mr Putin's top spokesman.

"I don't know what would be deemed 'damaging, ' but I didn't hear anything that I would deem to be damaging", Goldstone said.

Akhmetshin said that Veselnitskaya, the Kremlin-linked Russian lawyer at the center of the meeting, began discussing some wealthy contributors to the Clinton Global Initiative.

"I believe some may have been, but this was an effort through lots of people, mostly counsel", Trump Jr. said.

"He said, 'It doesn't matter. I never spoke to my father about it".

"The June 9, 2016, meeting is one piece of a much larger puzzle and confirms that the Trump campaign was willing to accept Russia's assistance".

But, he added, "at the time, I thought I should listen to what Rob and his colleagues had to say". He said he was skeptical about the value of such a meeting and "as it later turned out, my skepticism was justified".

QUESTION: Was Mr. Kushner present for the entire meeting? "The meeting was instead primarily focused on Russian adoptions". Also, if this meeting wasn't a problem, why did his father advise on Don Jr.'s statement through Hicks, rather than directly?

He testified he was promised dirt on candidate Hillary Clinton, but he got very little information during the meeting. Veselnitskaya declined to be interviewed, but provided written answers to questions.

Pressed on whether he asked Trump to provide assistance, Trump Jr. said, "No. [Hicks] asked if I wanted to actually speak to him, and I chose not to because I didn't want to bring him into some thing that he had nothing to do with".

Donald Trump Jr. says he was "candid and forthright" in answering questions by the Senate Judiciary Committee in the Russian Federation investigation. To put it another way, the documents strongly suggest that the Trumps-or at least Trump, Jr. -were nearly certainly willing to collude with the Russians if they really had the goods on Clinton.

QUESTION: And do you recall at all whether he stayed for that entire part of her presentation that had to do with the Ziff Brothers and the tax fraud?

Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, who declined to be interviewed by the committee, said in an 11-page statement that he had "hardly any" contacts with Russians during the campaign and that he "did not remember" the Trump Tower meeting.

As more damaging details about the true objective of the meeting trickled out, Trump Jr. on July 9 issued a new statement admitting that he had actually sought damaging information on Clinton from these Russian actors. Then, in 2015, Trump was invited to the elder Agalarov's 60th birthday party in Moscow. "I totally understand re: Moscow, unless maybe he would welcome a meeting with President Putin, which Emin would set up", he wrote.

The meeting was attended by Donald Trump Jr., who agreed to attend the meeting after organizers dangled the promise of damaging information on his father's opponent, Hillary Clinton.
