Marseille playmaker Dimitri Payet was not included in the France's 23-man World Cup squad named by head coach Didier Deschamps on Thursday.
France's 23 man squad for Russian Federation includes Giroud, who moved to Chelsea in January after being warned his World Cup place was in doubt if he remained on the Gunners' bench.
But he has also fallen victim to the number of attacking options available to Deschamps, who did call up Payet's Marseille team-mate Florian Thauvin along with Lyon captain Nabil Fekir.
Payet has been in impressive form with Marseille.
Tottenham Hotspur's Hugo Lloris is one of three goalkeepers, while Manchester City's Benjamin Mendy is amongst the defenders despite missing most of the Premier League campaign through injury.
"It always seems impossible until it's done", wrote Mendy on Twitter.
Atletico Madrid's Europa League win gives Ligue 1 sides Champions League boost
Adil Rami shot wide moments later as Marseille's positive start upset Atletico's rhythm. He also played a part in the build-up to Gabi's late goal that sealed the victory.
Both Martial and Lacazette are on the standby list of 11 players, which also includes Crystal Palace centre-back Mamadou Sakho, Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma and Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko.
"He played the first half-hour of the Europa League final and his situation worsened".
The 29-year-old Nzonzi has just two caps.
Deschamps has a host of sparkling attacking talents within his squad, and there is a place for Chelsea's Olivier Giroud, but his former Arsenal teammate Alexandre Lacazette, Manchester United's Anthony Martial and Real Madrid's Karim Benzema are not amongst the names featuring in the French squad, who will head to Russian Federation as one of the tournament favourites. I put the group on top of everything and from there, I make choices that in my opinion are for the good of the France team.
Prior to their departure for Russia, France will take on Ireland, Italy and the United States in friendlies.
France are in Group C alongside Australia, Peru and Denmark.
