While it's unsurprising that Lincoln might want to leave The Walking Dead after almost a decade of playing that single role, Rick has been at the center of the show since the very beginning. Lincoln will appear in six episodes next season, according to Collider, who first reported the news.
Andrew Lincoln, star of AMC's "The Walking Dead", will reportedly leave the show after its ninth season, which is now in production.
ComicBook.com said it's still unclear how Lincoln will be written off. Lincoln is one of the few early cast members - actors who joined the show during Season 3 or before - left standing.
What's more, AMC is reportedly trying to lessen the blow that'll hit fans by offering a big payday to Daryl actor Norman Reedus, who would take on the show's leading role. When reached by SYFY WIRE, AMC declined to comment on the report. She will appear in Season 9, though. Grimes is also alive in the comic books.

"The Walking Dead" wrapped its eighth season in April. But for now the only thing that is certain is that beloved Rick Grimes' story is coming to an end after season 9 of The Walking Dead.
"The Walking Dead" fans are well accustomed to saying goodbye to fan favorite characters, but they better start preparing to say an ultimate farewell next season.
