The investigators' report from Wilkes-Barre said the tornado damage was consistent with an EF2 strength tornado, meaning the average wind speed reached between 111 and 135 miles per hour.

The twister in Wilkes-Barre Township, Luzerne County cut a path 200 yards wide for three-quarters of a mile, NWS said after surveying damage Thursday.

Some of the storm damage is visible from I-81 South near Wilkes-Barre, the Times Leader said.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has confirmed that a tornado occurred in Franklindale on June 13.

Both teams reported damage consistent with EF2 tornadoes.

In Bradford County, where Franklin is located, damage was reported in three neighboring townships, but emergency personnel said there were no reports of injuries. "It affected between a half-mile and mile radius of mostly business interests". It says structures were "sheared off near their foundation".

The tornado caused severe damage in one of the region's major commercial corridors, destroying storefronts and ripping roofs off buildings.

The Tornado Warning was issued at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday and continued until 9 p.m. Thousands are without power in the areas hardest hit, according to Penelec.

The Wilkes-Barre Township Police Department posted on Facebook that there were "multiple collapsed/damaged buildings" in the area of Mundy Street, and asked drivers to avoid the area. The weather system that created the tornadoes destroyed homes, stores and cars and left at least six people injured.

Photos of the damage near Granville Township in Bradford County shows collapsed homes and damage to local businesses.

Authorities said six people sustained minor injuries when the storms rolled through.
