Nikki Haley says the United States has pulled out of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

John Bolton told Fox News on Wednesday the decision was made by President Donald Trump weeks ago and had nothing to do with high commissioner's criticism of the USA immigration policies.

The United States has announced it is leaving the UN Human Rights Council.

China, which has on multiple occasions voiced support for multilateral institutions abandoned by U.S. President Donald Trump, portrayed the council as "a major body.to promote the realisation of human rights". Its decision "risks undermining the role of the U.S.as a strong advocate and supporter of democracy on the world stage", she added.

He lauded the council's work in combating human rights crimes.

Diplomats from several countries made the comments in a brief break in the Human Rights Council's regular schedule on Wednesday to allow for comments about the Trump administration's decision Tuesday to pull out from the 47-member council.

Diplomats have said the United States withdrawal could bolster countries such as Cuba, Russia, Egypt and Pakistan, which resist what they see as United Nations interference in sovereign issues. She also criticized countries which shared United States values and encouraged Washington to remain, but "were unwilling to seriously challenge the status quo". We have a Constitution. She added the US will work with non-governmental groups that share USA goals, "but not with ones who undermine them".

"But today we need to be honest", Pompeo said.

Among the US's failed initiatives was an attempt to prevent human rights abusers from gaining council membership, such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Haley said.

Dujarric said the council, which reviews the human rights records of United Nations, and special investigators who work on rights issues "play a critical role in protecting and promoting human rights across the world".

The United Nations' Human Rights Council returned to business as usual Wednesday despite the USA pulling out a day earlier.

"The UN Human Rights Council has worked effectively without the U.S. in the past and we hope that it will continue to do so", she said.

Russia's mission to the U.N.in NY posted on Twitter late on Tuesday: "U.S. attempts to blame the whole world for the politicization of HRC work are especially cynical".

The council, she added, has a "chronic bias against Israel".

Haley said the withdrawal "is not a retreat from our human rights commitments".

The US has long had a conflicted relationship with the UNHRC and says it has to be reformed.

The Russian mission described the council as a "key worldwide platform for cooperation in protecting human rights". "Rather than altering those practices, it is now threatening United States companies, workers and farmers who have done nothing wrong".

"Look at the council membership and you see an appalling disrespect for the most basic human rights". Members serve for three-year terms and can serve only two terms in a row.
