Thunder to re-sign Felton, pass $300M threshold

Raymond Felton Reportedly Agrees to Re-Sign with Thunder on 1-Year Contract

Thunder Break Bank To Re-Sign Raymond Felton

Free agent point guard Raymond Felton will return to Oklahoma City in 2018 after signing a one-year deal with the Thunder on Tuesday night. In short, Oklahoma City's current roster would provide its ownership group with the largest luxury tax bill in the history of the National Basketball Association.

Felton was an important part of the Thunder as their backup point guard a season ago, enjoying a career revival in his role. As of now, Bobby Marks of ESPN said the Thunder have $150 million in luxury tax. The deal is a grain of sand in the payroll of the Thunder compared to the likes of Russell Westbrook ($35m earned next season), Paul George ($30.5m), Carmelo Anthony ($27.9m) and Steven Adams ($24m).

Heading into the offseason, the Thunder only had nine players under contract but with a combined total of $117 million, just a few million short of the luxury tax threshold.

The Thunder traded James Harden in 2012, at least in part, due to salary and luxury tax concerns.

Many thought that because of PG13's desire to play in his hometown, that he would play for the Thunder for one season before signing with the Lakers.

The former Tar Heel has played for eight teams in his 13-year professional career and averaged 11.4 points, 5.4 assists and three rebounds per game.

Felton doesn't put up 17 points and nine assists per game like he did back in 2010 with the New York Knicks, but he still certainly has his moments.

George, a five-time All-Star, was originally selected by the Pacers with the 10th pick in the 2010 NBA Draft.
