Environmental conditions are favorable for additional development, and a tropical depression or a tropical storm could form an any time today or Friday. Tropical Storm Warnings have been posted for portions of the Cabo Verde Islands, where heavy rain and strong winds are expected through tomorrow.
The potential tropical cyclone has winds of 30 miles per hour.
On the forecast track, the storm was expected to make a turn toward the west-northwest with a decrease in forward speed Wednesday night followed by a turn toward the northwest and north through Friday night.
In an update on Wednesday afternoon, the NHC said a vigorous low-pressure area associated with a tropical wave is forecast to form between the coast of Africa and the Cabo Verde Islands on Thursday.
The NHC is showing no tropical development near Florida over the next five days, but a tropical wave near Puerto Rico will be making its way west late this week. While still far away from the USA coast and Florida, the system comes as the Atlantic season enters what is historically its busiest period.

Scattered showers and storms should then develop across the interior and shift west as the sea breeze pushes inland.
Of more immediate concern to South Florida is whether Labor Day weekend will be a washout. This will increase rain chances for the state late this weekend or early next week.
