Emery: 'Ozil is looking well'

Arsenal's Spanish head coach Unai Emery reacts on the touchline during the English Premier League football match between Arsenal and West Ham United at the Emirates Stadium in London

Unai Emery has made several changes to Arsenal’s training sessions

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery has told his players to forget about their recent woeful Premier League away form and aim to begin a "new future".

Arsenal recorded its first win against West Ham last weekend and will be looking to continue in the same vein when the Gunners travel to Cardiff on Sunday.

In the opening two games, Emery warned the playmaker that he was expected to track back and defend more.

Unai Emery's tenure began with back-to-back defeats against Manchester City (2-0) and Chelsea (3-2), but he believes progress is being made after his team came from behind to finish strongly against the Irons. The players open their minds to watch the good things but also see the bad things and the mistakes and how we can improve. "It's for that, he's OK".

It was claimed Ozil had stormed out of a training session when Emery urged him to try harder to adapt to his high-tempo pressing game.

"I know you are a lot of journalists working for the media in TV, radio, newspapers". But all the respect for me for this idea. "In my career, I do not stop for news when it's not true". I don't care who the manager is - Pep Guardiola or whoever - it is going to take time and he needs it.

Manchester City reveal their aims for this season’s Champions League
Liverpool met Red Star Belgrade in the last 16 of the European Cup in 1973-74, with the Reds losing both the home and away legs. Bayern should progress comfortably with Benfica and Ajax likely to battle for second place and AEK as risky outsiders.

Emery didn't say whether Ozil will start, though, with the German's role in the team under some scrutiny after he was substituted midway through the second half against Chelsea two weeks ago.

Emery has badly-balanced squadWhat's Emery changed at Arsenal?

"After this, we want to go far in this competition". Going into the season as odds-on favourites to be relegated, they have only lost one of their first three matches. Then we finished the last 20 minutes really well.

"The possibility of him playing from the start is okay, but I am happy with all of the players and how they are working, not just Lucas".

There is plenty of work left to do but the signs are positive that Emery is starting to implement his ideas and the Arsenal boss will be keen to head in to the worldwide break with another three points under his belt on Sunday.
