Shares of electric vehicle maker Tesla have fallen more than 6 per cent after company CEO Elon Musk smoked marijuana during a podcast interview and the company's accounting chief left after a month on the job. He added that he still believed in Tesla, that "I have no disagreements with Tesla's leadership or its financial reporting".

On Friday, the head of Tesla's Human Resources department, Gabrielle Toledano, announced she would not return from a leave scheduled in June.

Elon Musk sipped whiskey and smoked marijuana during a two-and-a-half-hour podcast with comedian Joe Rogan that touched upon everything from flame throwers and artificial intelligence to the end of the universe. Employees at both its Fremont, California, auto factory and Reno, Nevada, battery Gigafactory, have been living through what Musk has called "production hell", working to ramp up production of the company's critical Model 3 sedan.

The latest guest on the popular Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Musk talked to the former Fear Factor host-turned-libertarian media star for three hours, touching on subjects from stockholder expectations to electric jets. Tesla said cash from Model 3 sales will pay the bills and drive profits. This reportedly has led to an SEC investigation. Elon Musk has continued to self-inflict PR disasters one after another, and not only that, but there is a disturbing trend of top talent bailing out on the automaker.

Asked by Musk whether it was legal to smoke, Rogan assured him that it was, then asked: "How does that work?"

Tesla did not immediately respond to NPR's request for comment. They were sitting inside a studio in California, where medical and recreational marijuana use is indeed legal. What I'm saying is that when Musk is bad the tweets are good, and here are the best ones from today's well-deserved social media dogpile. Keep this in mind, Mr. Morton was due a $10 million dollar new hire grant that would vest after four years with the company, and he willingly walked away from it.

He contended that he ignores the majority of negative comments at Twitter , but has occasionally been drawn in and made mistakes. Musk follows by shrugging his shoulders at the experience, apparently unimpressed. "It may sound corny, but love is the answer".

Shares came under pressure at the opening following the Musk online interview and news that chief accounting officer Dave Morton was leaving only a month on the job, citing the company's frenetic pace.

Earlier this week Musk escalated his baseless attacks against the British diver Vernon Unsworth, claiming that the man who helped rescue children from a Thailand cave was a "child rapist".

Rogan described it as marijuana inside tobacco, and asked if Musk had ever tried it.

And some, in true Twitter fashion, used the occasion for sarcasm.
