Dallas Police Chief Renee Hall said Saturday that a warrant for the officer has been put on hold by the Rangers as they investigate.

Hall said police aren't handling the case under the department's usual officer-involved shooting protocol. Her apartment was not on the same floor as Jean's.

A police spokeswoman, Debra Webb, said she did not have further information on the case, including when the officer would be booked into jail. Dallas Fire Rescue also responded and took Mr. Jean to the hospital where he later died.

No arrest warrant had been issued for Guyger by Sunday. ("This is an global story as well because we're an worldwide city", he said.) He also reported speaking with Gov. Greg Abbott, who gave assurances that the Texas Rangers would deliver a transparent, independent investigation and "justice will be served in the long run". "It just feels like a nightmare", Allison told NBC News.

"This family is frustrated".

When Botham Jean was born in 1991, his mother said, "God gave me an angel". He described Jean as an "amazing individual" and said that "if the grand jury deems necessary, this officer should have to answer for her actions in a court of law in Dallas County".

"She took my life away, like my very own life", Allison said of the officer.

The white patrol officer has not been identified, but her name will be released when she is formally charged, Hall told reporters. She was not injured.

"Somebody has to be insane not to realize that they walked into the wrong apartment", Allie Jean said. "Based on that interview with the officer, they asked us to hold off on the warrant until they had the opportunity to investigate some of the information that was provided during that interview", she said.

"At the very early stages of this investigation - initial indications were that they were what we consider circumstances of an officer-involved shooting", Hall said.

"There is so much rhetoric surrounding this incident".
