President Trump took to Twitter Sunday morning to attack Democrats

Kevin Hassett, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, on Monday told reporters President Donald Trump tweeted an incorrect claim that USA gross domestic product had surpassed the rate of unemployment for the first time in more than a century.

During Monday's White House press briefing, Trump economic adviser Kevin Hassett acknowledged that the president's claim was incorrect.

In fact, US GDP growth has been higher than the unemployment rate in several quarters during the last century, including, most recently, in 2006.

The unemployment rate is at near-20-year lows, but recorded its steepest declines while Mr Obama was in charge. The now its 10th year of economic growth, and in its longest period of growth with 95 straight months of job creation.

Earlier in the day, Trump made the claim on Twitter. He inherited a dismal economy in the middle of a recession that lasted 18 months, facing what many feared would be a depression, and was able to turn it around in the first years of his presidency.

Sanders asserted at the August 14 White House press briefing that Trump had tripled Obama's eight-year job creation record in just 18 months, quoting numbers that are not even close to accurate.

Woman mistakes dynamite for candle during power outage, suffers severe injuries
A woman in CT blew her fingers off after mistaking a stick of dynamite for a candle, ABC New York station WABC reported. A CT woman may have been channeling Warner Bros. cartoons when she mistook a stick of dynamite for a candle.

While that was good news about the economy, Lemon was struck by the president's inability to tell the truth.

Trump regularly deletes and re-posts tweets to correct misspellings or to rephrase his points. "President Obama took office during the worst downturn since the Great Depression", he said.

"He was the president for the eight years when the cause was being created", Christie said on "ABC This Week" on Sunday.

The US economy added about 3 million jobs for black workers while Obama was in office, according to BLS data.

A Trump referendum: History - since the Civil War - suggests that midterm elections are nearly always a referendum on the party in power.

That's not the case for the S&P 500 Index, which has increased about 35% since Trump was elected on November 8, 2016.
