Throughout the Emmy's 70-year history, plenty of talented black actors and actresses have been passed over for their white peers and Emmys co-host Michael Che chose to right some of those wrongs.

On the comedy side, Amazon's "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" won for outstanding comedy, lead actress Rachel Brosnahan and supporting actress Alex Borstein. The Atlanta-native also came up short to Bill Hader who won Lead Actor in Comedy Series for HBO's "Barry".

Happy Days star Henry Winkler won an award - 42 years after he was first nominated for an Emmy.

Lorne Michaels, the 73-year-old behind Saturday Night Live, not only left the Microsoft Theatre with the Emmy for best variety sketch series, he also produced the broadcast for NBC.

"One of the things I love the most about this show, while I have you captive for another two seconds - it's about a woman who is finding her voice anew", Brosnahan said.
