Cruz has consistently attempted to paint O'Rourke as too liberal for Texas' more conservative electorate that hasn't elected a Democrat statewide since 1994.

According to an online poll released Wednesday by Reuters and Ipsos in conjunction with the University of Virginia Center for Politics, O'Rourke leads Cruz by two percentage points among likely voters. The difference in this poll and others released by Quinnipiac in the past on this race is who was surveyed. "PETA is confident that once Ted Cruz tastes how delicious tofu can be, he'll want to see it in every Texas pot", the statement said.

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz jokingly told his supporters over the weekend that if rival Beto O'Rourke won their upcoming election, he would ban barbecue across Texas.

The comments the group is referring to came at a different campaign even last week, when Cruz told a gathering of supports that liberals want Texas "to be just like California, right down to the tofu and silicon and dyed hair".

"There should be 10 times as much money across all markets", said Albert Morales, a Fort Worth native who serves as senior political director for the left-leaning polling firm Latino Decisions. Independent voters support O'Rourke by 51 percent.

Abbott is now running Spanish-language radio ads and will be going up with Spanish language TV ads in the coming weeks. "Congressman O'Rourke may be drawing big crowds and media attention, but Texas likely voters like Sen".

"I've been supporting Democrats all my life", he said on ABC's The View Tuesday. "Let's work together to lead the way on healthcare, education, and immigration reform".
