Intel introduces new 9th generation Core i9 processor for desktop gaming

Intel Announces First 9th-Generation Core Processors

The 9th Gen Intel Core Desktop Processors Are Now Official: Lead By Core i9-9900K 8C/16T Chip

Take a look at our take on Intel vs AMD processors.

While Intel officially revealed ninth-gen Core series of chips, those will mostly be targeted at consumer and PC enthusiasts who want solid processors for gaming and general performance computing. "The results are absolutely clear". The rated TDP is 95W, and Intel points out that compared to the Core i7-8700K, the new Core i9-9900K has more cores with similar frequencies running within the same thermal envelope. Like all of Intel's processors released over the past few years, the 9 generation Core parts are based on a refined 14nm manufacturing process (14nm++), and are dubbed Coffee Lake Refresh.

While the 8th generation Core flagship, the Core i7-8700K (and the anniversary Core i7-8086K), stuck to six-cores and twelve threads, Intel has now upped the core game, pushing its flagship Core i9-9900K to eight-cores with a total of sixteen threads.

Finally, Intel also announced the Xeon W-3175X workstation chip with an incredible 28 cores.

Amazon just started listing the 8-core Core i9 9900K. The big news here is that Intel has made the jump to eight cores in a mainstream chip for the first time.

The other woman shot in the incident was taken to hospital, where doctors said her injuries were not life-threatening. Those killed were identified as a man and woman, both in their 30s and employees at the same factory.

Those boost clocks are all single-score speeds. All three of these processors will apparently work on all Z300-series motherboards, so those who bought into Z370 past year will be able to drop a new CPU in after a BIOS update.

However, that doesn't mean that the Core i7 is a downgrade.

The platform supports six channels of DDR4-2666 memory with a maximum capacity of 512GB and offers 68 PCIe lanes. The 1-core CPU boost is 4.6GHz, 2-core at 4.5GHz, 4-core at 4.4GHz and 6-core at 4.3GHz.

Also new: These chips are the first to include hardware fixes for some variants of the Meltdown and Spectre flaws.

For its latest 9th Generation chips Intel is going with a soldered integrated heat spreader (IHS) - which we haven't seen since Sandy Bridge - to support greater overclocking capabilities. While both processors have eight physical cores, only the i9-9900K will feature Hyper-threading allowing for a 16-thread configuration.
