President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, who has a strong relationship with the Saudi crown prince, said Monday that White House officials have their "eyes wide open" about the investigation into the death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir said on Sunday that King Salman is determined to hold to account those responsible in the case regarding Khashoggi.
Saudi Arabia has seen numerous high-profile guests pull out of its upcoming Future Investment Initiative summit, also known as "Davos in the Desert", including U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, as the Khashoggi scandal has played out. "But Saudi Arabia is a very responsible country, for decades we used our oil policy as (a) responsible economic tool and isolated it from politics", al-Falih said.
As the Toronto Star's Daniel Dale has pointed out, Trump has cited ever-increasing numbers of jobs he's claimed will be created by weaponry sales to Saudi Arabia.
He told MPs: 'We have an important strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia involving defence and security co-operation which has saved lives on the streets of Britain.
"This is an aberration", al-Jubeir said in the Fox television interview. "I appeal to all the producers and consumers to have common sense in the very hard months we are entering", Birol told Reuters on the sidelines of a conference in Japan.
"A lot of the reforms they've been making there to help us track down the terror financing and also to push back against the people who are perverting the religion, have been very historic over the past year", he said.
It added 18 Saudis were arrested in connection with his death and two top aides of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as well as three other intelligence agents, were fired.

The statement, calling the journalist's death "tragic", says the two presidents had a telephone call on Sunday, without providing more details.
Kushner also dismissed reporting claiming he pressed the president to give the Saudis more time and space to complete their investigation, a move the president's critics said could give Saudis more time to concoct a story.
