US President Donald Trump on Wednesday called on the media to stop their "endless hostility" and "false attacks" in comments addressing a number of pipe bombs sent earlier in the day to Barack Obama, top Democrats and CNN.

"Republicans just don't do this kind of thing", said Rush Limbaugh, the conservative talk radio host Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, the discovery of a suspicious package addressed to NBC and MSNBC correspondent John Brennan found inside CNN's mailroom caused the evacuation of its NY offices.

New York City Police Commissioner James O'Neill says investigators are reviewing security video to see if they can identify a courier believed to have delivered the pipe bomb package to CNN's office.

"The attempt to spread fear is the world we live in", New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said at the same briefing.

The packages had numerous hallmarks of suspicious mail, including large block lettering and excessive postage aimed at making it harder to track, said Matthew Doherty, who formerly led the U.S. Secret Service's National Threat Assessment Center.

Police officers visited other "locations associated with the Soros family, his businesses", and then when the devices addressed to Clinton and Obama were discovered, "we really widened our outreach", Miller said.

The CNN journalists were forced to interrupt the broadcast as they reported on the news of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama's residences had received two explosive devices addressed to the two politicians.

Bomb experts and security analysts say that based on the rudimentary construction of the bombs it appeared they were more likely created to sow fear rather than to kill. The devices are rudimentary but functional. Campaign chairman Brad Parscale said that it was an automated message and that the campaign does not condone violence against anyone who works for the network.

An earlier Federal Bureau of Investigation statement said the other packages consisted of a manila envelope with a bubble-wrap interior containing "potentially destructive devices". Investigators in California scrutinized a package sent to Democratic Sen.

None of the eight packages detonated, and nobody was hurt. At the NY briefing, authorities confirmed that at least some of the packages were distributed through the USA mail, and cautioned that there could be additional devices in the postal system.

It was addressed to John Brennan, former director of the Central Intelligence Agency.

The package addressed to Hillary Clinton was intercepted Tuesday night by the Secret Service at a screening facility.

The device addressed to Hillary Clinton was discovered at her home in the NY suburb of Chappaqua, Westchester County, late on Tuesday by a Secret Service employee who screens mail for her. The show had been focusing in on a suspicious package sent to the home of former President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary.

"It is a troubling time, isn't it?"

Multiple Manhattan buildings have been evacuated after police responded to a suspicious package in the area of Columbus Circle, CNN reports. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee who was accused by Clinton rivals of secretly helping the party's eventual presidential nominee.

Chappaqua police said authorities in New Castle assisted the FBI, the Secret Service and Westchester County police with the investigation into the package sent to Clinton.

House Speaker Paul Ryan and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker on Wednesday both addressed the attempted attacks, with Ryan calling it an "act of terrorism" that has no place in our democracy.

These terrorizing acts are despicable, and anyone responsible will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

Press Secretary Sarah Sanders added in a statement that the "US Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies are investigating and will take all appropriate actions to protect anyone threatened by these cowards".

But recently Trump has sought to flip the script on Democrats, citing their aggressive opposition to Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination as evidence that the party is a unsafe "mob".

He added that Trump was right to speak out Wednesday and condemn political violence, but he noted that Trump also recently praised a lawmaker who assaulted a reporter. In his speech, he said, "I want to begin tonight's rally by addressing the suspicious devices and packages, that were mailed to current and former high ranking government officials". A police bomb squad removed still another from CNN's NY headquarters, which was evacuated.
