'I approve this message': Oprah makes rare political appearance in support of Georgian candidate

Kemps office this weekend announced a probe into the state's Democratic party for alleged cybercrimes. She attributed the racist attack to Kemp and President Donald Trump's rhetoric.

After Thursday's dueling outsiders, former president Barack Obama will follow on Friday for Abrams.

She touts her experience working with Republicans as a state legislative leader, but she doesn't back down on her promises to expand Medicaid insurance, prioritise public education and push for tighter gun restrictions. I'm not trying to test any waters.

"I was sitting at home in California, minding my own business, but I could not stop hearing about what's going on down here", Winfrey said, charming the crowd that had gathered to see her.

"She had all the celebrities in 2016", Hurt said. "And I want you to know that their blood has seeped into my DNA, and I refuse to let their sacrifices be in vain. This is the South. People have been really wonderful and really optimistic about Stacey Abrams".

"To be very clear, Brian Kemp's scurrilous claims are 100 percent false, and this so-called investigation was unknown to the Democratic Party of Georgia until a campaign operative in Kemp's official office released a statement this morning", Rebecca DeHart, executive director of the Democratic Party of Georgia, said in a statement.

She encouraged black and female voters to go to the polls, telling them that "for anybody here who has ancestor who didn't have right to vote. you are dishonoring your family".

Polls suggest Abrams and Kemp are deadlocked in one of the hottest matchups of the midterm elections.

Then she encouraged women of all races - "sisters. not just 'sistahs,"' she joked - to remember that they would have been "just a piece of property" with no ballot barely a century ago.

Videos uploaded to Ms Winfrey's and Ms Abrams' social media showed the television personality knocking on doors canvassing for the hopeful governor.

"This political stunt from Kemp just days before the election is yet another example of why he can not be trusted and should not be overseeing an election in which he is also a candidate for governor", the Georgia Democratic Party's executive director, Rebecca DeHart, said in a statement.
