Alexa can now make Skype calls

Skype calling comes to Alexa devices, furthering Amazon and Microsoft’s surprising partnership

Alexa Can Now Wake Up TVs in Low-Power Mode

Now, you can make Skype calls on both audio-only Alexa-enabled devices like the Amazon Echo Dot, Echo and Echo Plus as well as video-enabled devices like the Amazon Echo Shot and Echo Spot.

One of the neatest features Amazon announced at the launch of its new Echo range in September was integration with Skype, bringing Echo Show into a wider world of person-to-person video conferencing.

Previously, owners of Amazon's Echo devices could only call people who also owned an Echo device or had the Alexa app. Every Alexa-enabled device will now be able to make calls with a simple voice command, such as "Alexa, Skype Mum". You can use that credit to make worldwide calls or reach people who aren't on Skype. if you're opposed to using Alexa's built-in calling feature that does it for free.

Stocks take sharp losses; Apple, Microsoft, Amazon and Facebook drop
Tuesday's slide compounded Monday's losses on the Dow, resulting in a two-day losing streak of about 950 points, or 4 percent. The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index fell eight points to 60 in November.

From the Alexa App, set up your device, then go to the setting option and find Communication and then select Skype to link your account. You'll sign into your Skype account, and that's that. It has been recommended that users should be on Skype version 8.34 or later.

Once installed you can ask Alexa what's in the news, and Alexa will read you an excerpt from the most recent stories, which are regularly updated throughout the day on the RailAdvent website. Microsoft is offering 100 free minutes for each of the first two months after linking Skype with Alexa.
