Chelsea Speed Up Talks Over Gonzalo Higuain Swoop

AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso has revealed that striker Gonzalo Higuain wants to leave the club amid reports of interest from Chelsea.

The Argentine striker is Maurizio Sarri's number one choice to replace Alvaro Morata - who is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this month - and Higuain is believed to be eager to reunite with a manager under whom he enjoyed his most prolific ever season.

He is on an €18-million season-long loan from Juventus with a €36m clause to make the deal permanent in the summer, meaning Chelsea would have to negotiate with the Bianconeri as well as the Rossoneri to sign him this winter. "I have a special relationship with him, we tell each other things face to face, there is great honesty", he began.

"When a player makes decisions, then it's also hard to convince him".

He has said he had been unaware of the alleged harassment and mistreatment of his aides during the campaign. It must be a reality in our daily lives.

"I wouldn't have let him play if he wasn't in the right condition".

"At the moment, he's our player and we're holding on tightly to him". We are honest with each other and I want him to maintain the same attitude, which has never been lacking'. It's his mind, not mine.

"I still don't understand what Higuain's unhappy about because I see a happy lad, involved in the locker room".

"Gonzalo's looked good since coming back [from winter break] and he's trained the way I like and I wouldn't have taken the decision to field him against Sampdoria if not", Gattuso told Milan TV on Friday.
