Although the filing does not say whether the polling information was public or what was done with it, it raises the possibility that Russian Federation might have used inside information from the campaign as part of its effort to interfere with the election on Trump's behalf.
U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson ordered Mueller to respond by January 14 with "factual and evidentiary basis" for why it is accusing Manafort of lying during his cooperation. Prosecutors say Manafort breached their plea agreement by lying, but defense lawyers argued that any misstatements were simple mistakes made by a man coping with illness, exhaustion and extensive questioning from investigators.
President Donald Trump has denied all allegations that his campaign colluded with the Russian government to subvert the 2016 presidential election, and denied knowing about any contact between Manafort and Kilimnik when approached by reporters on the White House's South Lawn.
Another witness, testifying against Manafort under oath, said Manafort and Akhmetov "knew each other well".
According to CNN, Manafort told his accountant in a November 2016 email to expect a $2.4 million payment for consulting work he performed in Ukraine.
Manafort's attorneys filed a new version of the 10-page document more than an hour later with the U.S. District Court in Washington that again blacked out the material, but by then the earlier version had been downloaded and shared widely on the internet.
Huge: Chelsea Dismiss Opening Barcelona Bid But Sarri Willing To Negotiate
The La Liga champions have offered Malcom plus cash to Chelsea for the 30-year-old, with the Blues swiftly knocking back the bid. Barca have reportedly made a renewed approach, with Malcom thrown into the deal, which Chelsea are also thought to have refused.
Giuliani also said on Wednesday that Trump's legal team told Mueller that the president will not answer any more questions in the investigation.
"Such a failure is unsurprising here, where these occurrences happened during a period when Mr. Manafort was managing a US presidential campaign and had countless meetings, email communications, and other interactions with many different individuals, and traveled frequently", the Manafort attorneys argued.
Manafort earned millions from his Ukrainian political work over several years, which included wire transfers from Akhmetov and Lyovochkin through offshore bank accounts, prosecutors said at trial.
A statement to CNN on behalf of Akmetov said: "Mr. Akhmetov never requested nor received any polling data or any other information about the 2016 U.S. elections from Paul Manafort or Konstantin Kilimnik". Manafort pleaded guilty in September to conspiracy charges related to that Ukraine work, and had agreed to cooperate truthfully with Mueller's team.
