Barça's Bartomeu: Isco? We'd certainly talk to Madrid

Match Preview - Barcelona vs R Madrid | 06 Feb 2019

Messi back in training but Valverde will not take risks

Lionel Messi has been left out of Barcelona's starting lineup for Wednesday's Copa del Rey semifinal match against Real Madrid.

He had ended Barca's 2-2 draw with Valencia on Saturday with a knock.

The former Madrid player and Castilla youth team coach was happier to go along with local reporters who suggested that La Liga's authorities had favoured Barca by giving them an extra day to prepare for both Wednesday's first leg and the return at the Bernabeu on February 27.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has stirred the pot by revealing he would be willing to broach the subject of buying Isco with Real counterpart Florentino Perez if head coach Ernesto Valverde gave the green light.

It's obvious that the team would feel more confident with Leo Messi on the pitch, as well as the home crowd, but he is a doubt for this match, and it seems unclear if he is going to play or not.

Messi, 31, last played for the national team at the 2018 World Cup, but is widely expected to make his return in March.

Lionel Messi has been named on the Barcelona bench for tonight's Copa del Rey clash with Real Madrid.

Asked whether Vinicius' recent displays made him undroppable, Solari replied more shortly that: "Nobody is undroppable in football".

Interestingly, the 42-year-old claimed his job at the White House within 24 hours after Julen Lopetegui's side was humbled 5-1 by the Catalans.

With their good fortune in the Champions League surely unable to hold for a fourth straight season, the Copa del Rey looks like the club's best chance of a trophy this season.

It would also be hard to leave out Vinicius, who has taken full advantage of Bale's absences to become a regular starter and a popular player with Madrid fans.
