South Korea calls for three-way talks after collapse at Trump-Kim summit

Trump says Cohen testimony 'may have contributed' to his walking away without a North Korea deal

Trump says the Cohen hearings made him 'walk' from the Kim summit after initially blaming 'bad deal'

At the same time in Washington, Trump's former aide Cohen was testifying before the U.S. House of Representatives´ Oversight Committee, accusing Trump of ordering his personal attorney to make threats for him about 500 times over the last 10 years.

"Fundamentally, in the case of all three of those countries we've got to pursue American national interests and that involves matters much weightier, much more important than some of these statements by the leaders", Bolton told "Fox News Sunday".

The proposal for the talks came during a National Security Council meeting on Monday led by South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who said it was Seoul's "outmost priority" to prevent nuclear negotiations between the US and North Korea from derailing.

On Saturday, Kim, his trademark high-and-tight pompadour a bit disheveled, walked slowly behind a wreath with his name on it and a message that said, "I mourn the heroes and patriotic martyrs", as it was taken to the Monument to War Heroes and Martyrs. "I don't view it as a failure at all when American national interests are protected".

The summit's collapse followed the leaders' historic meeting in Singapore, which produced only a vague commitment from Kim to work "toward complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula".

The breakdown of the summit was a blow for Moon, who had hoped eased USA sanctions would help lead to a restart of inter-Korean projects including a factory park, key to his vision for a pan-peninsula economic community.

"Sometimes you have to walk and this was just one of those times", Trump said on Thursday, adding that he would "rather do it right than do it fast". He added that should the Yongbyon facility with its uranium and plutonium processing capabilities be completely decommissioned, denuclearization of the North will enter an "irreversible phase".

Bolton was touring the Sunday political shows the morning after the US and South Korea announced an end to key annual large-scale military exercises.

Kim summit: N.Korean leader talks up denuclearisation
Kim Yo Jong was seen standing close by, watching on from the sidelines as the two world leaders greeted each other in Hanoi . He then added that he hopes that they will be successful with time and that he will really try to make that happen.

The UN resolutions passed before 2016 were primarily focused on North Korean proliferation and the country's weapons trading.

"I think Kim had all authority to do that".

After a stern rebuke from Warmbier's parents, Trump took to Twitter, insisting he held North Korea responsible for the student's death - but without directly blaming Kim or even mentioning him.

Last week's meeting between Trump and Kim in Vietnam broke down over what the Americans said were North Korea's excessive demands for sanctions relief in exchange for a limited offer to shut down its aging main nuclear complex in Yongbyon.

"I ask that we find out the exact gap between the two sides that led to a no-deal at the Hanoi summit and explore ways to narrow down that gap", Moon said.

Initially, Trump appeared on Fox News and told Sean Hannity that he and the dictator could not come to an agreement on what North Korea would have to do to ease sanctions.

Opponents of scrapping the drills warn that it could affect the combat readiness of USA and South Korean forces and hand the North a strategic advantage on the divided peninsula.
