He's accused of spearheading the scam, including allegedly facilitating cheating on college entrance exams like the SAT and ACT, Photoshopping prospects' heads on athletes' bodies, and bribing admissions officers.
In most cases, the students did not know their admission to the schools was contingent on a bribe. "We will make informed, appropriate decisions once those reviews have been completed". That, in turn, boosted the students' chances of admission.
These parents are a catalog of wealth and privilege.
"For every student admitted through fraud, an honest and genuinely talented student was rejected", Lelling said.
Huffman is accused of paying a $15,000 bribe through the charity.
"There can be no separate college admissions system for the wealthy and I will add there will not be a separate criminal justice system either", Lelling said at the press conference Tuesday. Basically rich people paid him a ton to bribe and defraud their kids into colleges they couldn't otherwise get accepted to.
How did the alleged scheme work?
"There were essentially two kinds of fraud that Singer was selling", Lelling said of the accusations, which run from 2011 to 2019.
