One of the highlights of Volkswagen's 2019 Annual Media Conference was the announcement that the VW Group is planning to launch nearly 70 new electric models in the next ten years instead of the 50 that were previously planned. Zwickau will also build electric cars for Volkswagen's Seat and Audi brands.

The original plan was to introduce the new model in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but that won't be the case anymore.

It was only on Monday during its lengthy Annual Media Conference when Volkswagen reiterated plans to roll out the eighth-generation Golf in 2019.

Volkswagen has ruled out compulsory layoffs until 2025, but early retirement will help the Wolfsburg, Germany-based carmaker to reduce its workforce between 5,000 and 7,000 positions, the carmaker said.

MAMMOTH German carmaker Volkswagen (VW) massively expanded on Tuesday its plans for electric auto sales in the coming decade, as its scramble to meet tougher greenhouse emissions targets has already begun weighing on profitability.

Volkswagen (vlkpf) is to cut up to 7,000 jobs by 2023 so that it can increasingly focus on electric vehicles and production automation. "But if you think about what we want to do, i.e. go up to 40 percent e-mobility share by 2030, then we have to electrify those lower segments as well". Reservations for each of these models already total 20,000 units. It describes MEB, which was developed specifically for electric vehicles, as the "heart" of its "electric offensive". The platform was developed specifically for electric vehicles, both large and small, allowing the company to avoid having to create multiple platforms. Volkswagen predicts that the I.D. will contribute to its estimated 22 million global EV sales over the next decade.

Volkswagen previously announced making new investments in electric and battery technology. The company is also contemplating entering into the battery manufacturing business in Europe, according to the announcement.
