Former Steelers safety Morgan Burnett to sign with Cleveland Browns

Browns to sign Morgan Burnett, create ex-Packers safety duo

The Cleveland Browns have agreed to terms with veteran safety Morgan Burnett, the team announced Friday.

Burnett, who is entering his ninth National Football League season out of Georgia Tech, has recorded 713 tackles, 50 passes defensed, nine interceptions and nine fumble recoveries.

Last year the Steelers signed Burnett, who turned 30 in January, to a three-year, $14.25 million contract that included a $4.25 million signing bonus.

"As a box safety and potential dime linebacker, Burnett should pair well as a complement to Cleveland free safety Damarious Randall on the back end",'s Kevin Patra writes in evaluating the deal. Burnett will have a chance to win a starting job in 2019. Last month, Burnett asked to be released by the Steelers after being used in a role he wasn't happy with this past season.
