A tragedy took place at Fordham University this past weekend, when a 22-year-old student plunged to her death after climbing the University clock tower.
Police said Monfries and her friends snuck into the Keating Clock Tower around 3 a.m. Sunday and were going to try to climb to the top.
"There are no words sufficient to describe the loss of someone so young and full of promise - and mere weeks from graduation". This is the first fall inside the clock tower, she said, noting that the university officials have sometimes given tours of the tower to "satisfy students' curiosity about it, and reduce the likelihood that they would attempt to enter the structure without authorization". "He told me some seniors (wanted to go) to the tower to take some pictures and have a good time before graduating".
A waiter at the restaurant where they had dinner beforehand told The New York Post that he did not know if they had been drinking. The university neither confirmed nor denied the supposed rite, and is investigating how the students gained access to the tower, which an official says is normally locked.
She was safely returned to the ground after being lifted out of one of the tower's windows and rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she was placed on life support in an "extremely critical" condition.

But it seems that Australian rugby bosses have had enough and are expected to rip up his contract. He said he would regard such a decision as "God's will".
The school will award Monfries a posthumous bachelor's degree.
However, a university senior told Observer "the doors aren't always locked". Some students said the incident happened during a senior student tradition.
According to USA media reports, Ms Monfries slipped on her way up the tower's spiral staircase and was found by emergency services at about 3.17am.
The circumstances of her fall were not immediately available, police said. I'll never forget all of our memories back when you lived in NJ and I'll forever cherish them!
After climbing the narrow staircase inside the tower, Monfries uploaded a video of the view to Snapchat, captioning it: 'Bell Tower, ' according to The New York Times. "Our hearts go out to Sydney's parents, and her family and friends - theirs is an unimaginable loss, and we share their grief". Monfries was due to graduate in May.
